Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is a fertility preservation technique particularly indicated for girls and young women who must undergo gonadotoxic treatments without sufficient time to complete ovarian stimulation cycles.
The SEF has published cumulative data covering the first 500 cases of ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation in Spain. Results show endocrine ovarian function restoration rates above 60%, and spontaneous pregnancy rates of 35% in patients who completed transplantation after overcoming their oncological disease.
Current indications
Main indications include: early-stage breast cancer, lymphomas, leukaemias, and other neoplasms requiring alkylating chemotherapy. The SEF guideline recommends that all oncological patients of reproductive age be offered fertility preservation counselling before starting treatment.
